26 de octubre, 2022

We have been learning about rhyming this week, and have been using several "Down by the Bay" videos in order to identify rhymes.  There is even a Halloween version!  Today the children illustrated one of the rhymes from this version in their visual journal.

We learned a new math game using a Ten Frame.  Ask your child to explain the rules to you!

We read the book Creepy Carrots, and created our own.  We learned a lot through this activity; how to draw and cut out triangles, circles etc, learning about proportions, positional concepts etc.  Check these out!

A reminder that Friday, October 28 is a non-instruction day with no school for all students.

With Halloween coming up, students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31.  The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives, weapons etc. should not be brought to school.  As costumes should not impede learning, we ask that no mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school.  Those wanting to wear COVID masks are welcome to. Due to dietary restrictions and preferences, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes.  While well intended, other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags).

School photos retakes were originally scheduled to happen on October 17 & 18 have been rescheduled to November 2 & 3.  If you would like your child to have photo retakes, please email your child's teacher to let them know. Class Photos will also happen on the November 2 for all classes with the exception of the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group whose class photo will be taken on November 3.

Dalhousie students will have the opportunity to participate in a 6-day dance residency at school. Sound Kreations will be coming to dance with the students on November 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, and 22. Our students will be participating in a program called CubaNYC where a Spanish speaking instructor will focus on teaching the students hip hop and Latin street dance moves. The cost of this residency will be $7.26 per student which can be paid through your MYCBE account.  This fee is in the process of being posted and you should see it in the next couple of weeks. We are excited to get our groove on, ask your child to see the moves they learned at school.

October 22, 2022 - PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

During the pandemic, many pieces shifted online, including Parent Teacher Conferences.  Some families indicated that they preferred them online as it allowed flexibility in timing and attendance.  We have formal opportunities for connections with families throughout the year.  Thank you for providing feedback for the format and method delivery of our conferences.  Please note that due to logistical parameters that are not in our control, we may not be able to implement all feedback.  Thank you for providing your input.  The survey will close October 28, 2022 at 4pm.

·       Juice boxes for lunches

·       Cereal

·       Coffee and coffee pods

Today, we created some beautiful coloured paper.  Then we drew an outline self portrait of ourselves and glued it on our paper.

During snack time, we watch Spanish videos.  One of our favourites to watch is Salsa.  So far, we have watched episodes from Season One up to episode 12.  If you are looking for a way to support your child at home, please have them review these episodes.  Repetition is key when learning a new language.

This week, we spent lots of time outside, enjoying the beautiful weather and the land.  We examined the sticks that the children brought to create Talking Sticks, played in the leaves, found some ladybugs, and looked for different colours in the leaves.

We read The Orange Shirt story by Phyllis Webstad, and talked her experience in Residential School in comparison to being at Dalhousie School.  Then the children drew about what makes them feel safe and happy at Dalhousie.

We made patterns and measured our sticks and began the process of painting them.

We continue to learn about the parts of the face in Spanish.  Check out this video!
